New Ad Opportunity For Software Vendors At Download.Com

Download.com, a CNET site used by software vendors to offer free downloads on a trial basis, introduced a new advertising program for vendors.

LaunchPad Download Express, introduced on Monday, is an advertising package that offers vendors targeted exposure on the home page and other areas of the site as well as email sent to users who order free trials.

"It's a combination of branding and follow through," says Scott Arpajian, Download.com's senior vice president, noting that advertising opportunities in the package do both.

Vendors can buy buttons and other units, plus email that is sent by CNET to users after they receive the software. The vendors will create the email and CNET will send it. "It increases the conversion," Arpajain says.

Twelve software vendors have signed on so far, including Microsoft, Adobe, Computer Associates and Trend Micro.

Advertisers also get exposure at other CNET sites, includign CNET, ZDNet, TechRepublic and Gamespot.

When asked about rates, Arpajian said Download Express is an advertising package with a variety of options available. "There are different levels they can purchase depending on how much exposure they require."
