NBC To Air USA Cable Shows During Strike

NBC will re-air episodes of hits from a sister cable network during the ongoing writers' strike. The tactic, intended to find new programming options, is necessary given the problematic negotiations.

The network said Tuesday it will air episodes of "Monk" and "Psych," which debut on USA next month, on Sundays in March.

NBC said the move will give the two shows an opportunity for wider sampling, but the lack of material from the strike looks to be another factor in the move.

The shows--which air back-to-back on Fridays on USA--are produced by NBC Universal's production arm, facilitating the repurposing.

"These two tremendously popular USA series are a great fit with NBC's current programming strategy and brand," said NBCU programming head Ben Silverman. "This is another example of how the NBC Universal family is finding terrific synergies as we share our creative assets."

NBC has previously said it has a run of strike-proof reality shows lined up for early next year, including the return of "The Apprentice" and new series "American Gladiators" and "The Baby Borrowers."

"Law & Order" returns Jan. 2 and drama "Medium" will make its season debut Jan. 7, providing another avenue for new episodes.
