Making That Login User-Friendly

Login and "my account" pages are a must for sites with members-only or subscription-based content, and Stoney deGeyter serves up a list of usability tips to ensure that these pages are easy to find and easy to use--ensuring that users want to come back.

Include an obvious link to the login page on every other section of the site, as well as a link to a registration form that automatically generates for new visitors. Login forms should include an option for reclaiming forgotten passwords or usernames, and if possible, a "remember me" option that allows users to stay logged in to your site indefinitely.

DeGeyter adds that your login or my account page data should also include info on your site's privacy and security policies (or at least a link to their in-depth explanations), and relevant financial info (order history, shipping status, account balance, etc.), if applicable.
