Web Radio Stations Stream More Hours

  • by June 18, 2002
MeasureCast, Inc. has reported that 22 of the top 25 Internet radio stations ranked by MeasureCast streamed more hours during the week of June 3 - 9 than they did the week before. In addition, 13 of the MeasureCast Top 25 attracted larger audiences during the week.

This increase in total time spent listening (TTSL) helped push the MeasureCast Internet Radio Index up 12%. Since January 6, the total time spent listening to Internet radio stations measured by MeasureCast is up 118%. The index is a representation of the trend in TTSL across a spectrum of on-line stations measured by MeasureCast.

"In part, the index rose because the week of June 3 had no holiday as the previous week did," explained MeasureCast marketing vice president Bill Piwonka. "Webcasters streamed 574,067 hours on Memorial Day, and a week later - Monday, June 3 - we recorded 1,414,535 hours streamed, an increase of 146%."

Internet radio listening is primarily a work-hour phenomenon, with 77% of all on-line listening occurring between 5 a.m. Pacific and 5 p.m. Pacific.
