Search And Super Tuesday: View From Inside Google

As team manager of elections and issue advocacy at Google, Peter Greenberger led the efforts to help many political candidates run their Super Tuesday search campaigns smoothly. The giant's political and public affairs division educates both politicians and issue-advocacy groups about how to use the Web to reach their constituents--particularly with AdWords.

"We're teaching campaigns how to serve ads that reach voters when and where they're looking," Greenberger said. He added that many of the candidates took advantage of geotargeting down to the ZIP code level, so that searchers in different districts saw different ads.

Google launched its political, public affairs division about eight months ago, and the team will have a total of five members (based in New York and D.C.) after a new hire next week.
