SEO should be the one of those core strategies, as trying to draw in natural search traffic is complementary to social media optimization efforts (like commenting on other blogs and using bookmarking sites like Digg).

Think about keywords when coming up with post titles, and change the post slugs or URLs if possible to maximize organic search potential. Also try adding keyword-rich links to your hot topic posts in a sidebar or footer, and even extend the life of popular posts by creating a three- or four-part series that delves into particular points in detail. And if you mention a publicly traded company, include its full name or stock symbol, as those markers may be enough to get your post picked up by a site like Yahoo Finance, or the company's own news aggregator.
