Non-Newspaper Readers Skew Younger, Are Bigger Online News Consumers

  • March 17, 2008
People who don't read print newspapers are likely to be younger and greater consumers of online news, according to a new comScore study.

Those ages 18 to 24 are 38% more likely not to read a print newspaper during a typical week.

Heavy newspaper readers, meanwhile, skew older and are more likely to stick with traditional print news sources on the Web. Both groups heavily visit the Web sites of print newspapers, however--suggesting the newspaper sites have developed a stand-alone presence in the online world.

TV news brands including CNN, MSNBC, Fox News and CBS News were also heavily trafficked by non-newspaper readers, indicating the importance of sight, sound and motion in digital news. The findings were based on comScore data compiled during the summer of 2007.
