Tax-Related Sites Biggest Draw For Second Straight Month: ComScore

With April 15 drawing ever closer, tax-related sites were the fastest-growing Web category for the second straight month, increasing 34% to 31 million visitors in February, according to monthly data released by comScore Media Metrix. Traffic to IRS.gov jumped 43% to 18 million, followed by TaxACT with 9.6 million (up 66%) and H&R Block at 6.7 million visitors (up 26%).

With the hype surrounding Super Tuesday on Feb. 5, politics continued to be a strong category as well, increasing 9% to 15 million visitors. BarackObama.com led the way with 3.2 million, up 46% from January, while HillaryClinton.com boosted traffic 31% to 1.5 million. Republican presidential nominee John McCain's site enjoyed an even bigger gain, growing almost 50% to 888,000.

Valentine's Day, meanwhile, proved a boon for flowers, gifts and greetings sites, which saw traffic jump 17%, led by outlets such as ProFlowers.com andFTD.com. Likewise, e-card sites sites increased 14%.
