Weather Channel Offers Tornadic Tours

  • May 27, 2003
On June 7, The Weather Channel, the nation's leading provider of weather information, presents a view of storm chasing through the eyes of two international travelers. "Twister Tours," a new primetime special, will debut on the cable network at 8 p.m. and will feature the tale of a British couple whose passion for tornadoes drives them to sign on for a rather unorthodox "chaperoned" adventure in Tornado Alley during the height of tornado season. An encore presentation of the special will air on June 8 at 5:00 P.M. EDT. "Twister Tours" is not only about the single-minded pursuit of a dangerous tornado, but also how this journey rekindles David and Sheila Wynne's relationship. The episode spotlights the couple as they choose to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in a most unusual way -- by chasing elusive tornadoes. As the Wynnes are exposed to nature's power and beauty, the physical and emotional journey proves to be life-altering. The danger of the Wynne's journey reaches its peak when the couple face down a group of twisters formed by a cyclical supercell. "We all know that exhilaration and self-discovery can flourish in unusual places, but viewers watching 'Twister Tours' will see more than an extreme couple seeking an adrenaline rush; viewers will see two people who witness the awesome power of nature and are never the same," said Patrick Scott, president of The Weather Channel Networks. "Much like our other primetime programs, 'Twister Tours' demonstrates that The Weather Channel is not just about the weather, but about life. We hope this program is as gripping an adventure for our viewers, as it was for this incredible couple.
