Study: Most People Find Online Videos Through Browsing, Recommendations

  • April 24, 2008
Most people find online videos through browsing or from recommendations from friends, according to a new study commissioned by video search provider ClipBlast.

Based on a survey of 1,000 online consumers, the study showed that 28% find videos through "discovery," almost an equal proportion (27%) rely on friends' recommendations, 22% use search engines, and 10% get to video through people they met online through social networks or other online communities.

Gary Baker, founder and CEO of ClipBlast, said the study indicates that habits surrounding online video have not yet fully formed. Among other findings, the survey found that men are more likely than women to discover videos through browsing, and that younger people are more likely than older people to surf for cool videos.

An estimated 73% of U.S. Internet users viewed video online in February, according to comScore.
