Consumers Rate Vehicles At Edmunds.com

  • May 27, 2008
Edmunds.com on Friday released its first list of vehicles rated by consumers.

The Edmunds.com Consumers' Top Rated Vehicle Awards rank cars and trucks categorically (based on consumer votes) by performance, comfort, fuel economy, fun to drive, interior design, exterior design, build quality and reliability. Results were based on a year's worth of submissions by vehicle owners on Edmunds.com vehicle-rating pages.

The firm says that among manufacturers, consumers gave Audi the most awards--for the TT coupe and convertible, A5, and A6--while Toyota, Lexus and Chevrolet tied for second place, each won two awards.

Among the vehicles getting the nod were the new Smart Fortwo car, for convertibles under $35,000, Saturn Astra; for coupe under $25,000; and Scion XD for sedan under $15,000. Interestingly, the top hybrid was not Prius, but the Mercury Mariner hybrid crossover. The Mazda5 was top minivan and Buick Enclave was rated top SUV between $25,000 and $35,000. Edmunds' consumer voters gave Jeep Patriot the nod for top SUV under $25,000.
