Kissing Cousins: 'Nashville Star' Airs On NBC, CMT

NBC's NashvilleStarNBC will re-air its country music "American Idol"-style competition on Viacom's CMT--a cable network devoted to that part of the jukebox.

The move means "Nashville Star" will be on cable for its sixth season in a row. The competition has been on NBC Universal's USA since launching, but NBC has shifted it to the network this year.

"Star" episodes will premiere on NBC on Mondays starting June 9, and then move to a regular re-airing time slot on CMT on Friday, June 20.

The series is produced by Reveille, the production company formerly headed by NBC's programming chief Ben Silverman. Silverman saw an opening to combine the fascination with "Idol" with the ever-emerging country-music fan base when developing the series.

Reveille's Howard Owens called the CMT re-purposing as "the only natural distribution fit."

Billy Ray Cyrus will host the show, which will be broadcast live on NBC. Contestants are 16 and up and include soloists and small groups. The winner receives a Warner Bros. recording deal.
