ComScore: Americans Watched 12 Billion Videos In May

U.S. Internet users watched 12 billion online videos in May, up 45% from a year ago and about 10% from April, according to comScore's Video Metrix service.

Google, via its ownership of You Tube, continued to dominate the rankings with a 35% share of all videos viewed. Fox Interactive Media, a distant second with 6.4% market share, nevertheless managed to gain 1.3 percentage points over last month. Rounding out the top five was Yahoo with 2.9%, Microsoft (2%) and Viacom Digital (1.7%).

Hulu.com--a joint venture of NBC and Fox, featuring full episodes of hit TV shows--debuted at no. 10, with 0.7% share.

In terms of unique viewers, it was a tighter race, with Google, drawing almost 84 million to Fox Interactive's 60.7 million. Yahoo followed with an audience of 40 million, Microsoft (29.5 million) and Time Warner (excluding AOL), 24.6 million.
