ComScore: Travel, Gaming Sites Gain In June

  • July 23, 2008
Summer usually means a slowdown in online activity and this June was no different as traffic dipped slightly and time spent per user dropped by 4%, according to comScore.

But some Web categories get a lift from the seasonal shift. Travel-related, movie and gaming sites enjoyed among the biggest traffic gains last month as people planned vacations and kids had more time for online fun with school out. None of these categories, however, increased by more than 4%.

Google hung onto the top slot overall with 140.2 million visitors, just edging Yahoo's 140.1 million. Microsoft rounded out the top three with 119. 7 million. Apple broke into the top 10 in June (from No. 12), fueled by the hype surrounding its release of the latest version of the iPhone.

AOL's Platform-A remained the top ad network, reaching 90% of the U.S. Internet audience of nearly 190 million. Yahoo Network was second with 83% reach, followed by Google Ad Network (81%) and Specific Media (78%).--Mark Walsh
