Spending Slowdown? Not At Buckle, With Profits Up 89%

The Buckle, Inc., the teen retailer based in Kearney, Neb., continues to defy the economy. The company, which has posted exceptionally strong sales results throughout the recent downturn, says net income for its second quarter surged 88.9% to $22.3 million, while sales for the chain jumped 36.6% to $169.8 million. At a time when most retailers are reporting declining sales, Buckle's comparable-store sales for the quarter increased 27.8%. --Sarah Mahoney
