Emily Post Descendant Ties The Knot With Brides.com

2 brides on cakeModern brides might face issues their mothers didn't, like how to tell your guests to set their phones on vibrate for the ceremony or ways to discourage the bridal party from using their BlackBerrys at the head table. But one thing all generations have in common when it comes to weddings is etiquette and etiquette advisors.

That's where Condé Nast's Brides.com comes in, with today's launch of a new section penned by a member of the first family of etiquette: Anna Post, great-great-granddaughter of the legendary etiquette expert Emily Post.

The Wedding Etiquette section will explore etiquette dilemmas, providing guidance and tips for traditional and nontraditional weddings. The first post goes live today and focuses on one of those situations only a modern-day bride could face: seating protocol at same-sex wedding ceremonies.

Post, who is in her late 20s, approaches etiquette from a perspective that draws on tradition and history while encouraging readers to realize that etiquette is less about worrying about which fork to use and more about treating people with consideration, honesty and respect.

She speaks at bridal shows, providing wedding etiquette advice and tips, and is the author of "Emily Post's Wedding Parties: Smart Ideas for Stylish Parties, From Engagement to Reception and Everything in Between" (Collins, October 2007). She is currently working on her second book.

"Etiquette questions are always top of mind for new brides-to-be, so the launch of a comprehensive section on wedding manners was a logical fit for Brides.com," said Michelle Preli, editor in chief of Brides.com. "We're particularly delighted to have an expert on hand like Anna Post, who can lead them through the intricate maze of 'I do' dos and don'ts."
