Yahoo, News Sites Score Big Election-Day Ratings

  • November 14, 2008
Yahoo released comScore figures Thursday showing that it led online news sites with 7.6 million unique visitors on Election Day. Yahoo also touted the total as the "largest single-day audience in online news history."

There's little question that the major Web news properties enjoyed big traffic gains on Nov. 4 as voters went online en masse to follow election returns. Runner-up to Yahoo on Election Day was MSNBC.com with an audience of 6.8 million, followed closely by CNN.com at 6.3 million, AOL News at 2.5 million, and FoxNews.com at 1.9 million.

Among other metrics, Yahoo also reported that users spent an average of 14.2 minutes per session on Political Dashboard, which provided an interactive view of the electoral college map showing key results in the presidential, Senate and House races.--Mark Walsh
