Google Gives Customers Faster Site Search

  • November 14, 2008
Google said Thursday it will add a feature called On-demand Indexing to Google Site Search that lets businesses instantly index new Web pages to make them searchable. The upgrade makes product releases, news and promotions that marketing departments post to their company's Web site quickly accessible.

The new option gives customers greater control through the "Index Now" button. The on-demand indexing makes new pages searchable within hours, taking no longer than a day to appear within site search results, according to Google.

Google believes that increasing speeds and features in Site Search will help it distance itself from Microsoft subsidiary Fast Search, a Norway-based company it acquired earlier this year.--Laurie Sullivan
