Sara Lee To Eliminate 700 Business Process Jobs

  • December 12, 2008
Sara Lee is moving to outsource some pieces of its transaction processing, applications development/maintenance and indirect procurement activities in North America and Europe.

The changes, the latest of many involved in the company's multi-year "Accelerate" turnaround push, will eventually result in the elimination of 700 staff and contractor jobs.

Accelerate encompasses a series of global initiatives aimed at producing annual savings of $200-250 million in the next three years and ultimately improving margins and shareholder value.

In addition to cost savings, business process outsourcing will help Sara Lee drive standardization, increase efficiency and provide flexibility, chairman/CEO Brenda Barnes said.

Sara Lee plans to start the outsourcing initiative in North America in the current fiscal year. Global implementation would be completed within three years.

The company is currently finalizing contract specifics with a third-party supplier.--Karlene Lukovitz
