NBC's 'Loser' Goes Mobile

NBC's Biggest Loser/mobile

In conjunction with successful NBC reality competition show "The Biggest Loser," a new mobile application gives users access to fitness and diet at the gym, or wherever.

Print and media publisher Rodale, NBC and "Loser" program producer Reveille have launched BLC Mobile as a companion to "The Biggest Loser" franchise. The mobile application will work with Internet area BiggestLoserClub.com, which started in September 2005. The show began in 2004.

As with the club, mobile users can now check weight-loss progress, as well as weigh in, log in meals eaten, get recommended diet plans, log in workouts, and access motivational tips. With the club, members can follow the fitness programs of the contestants on the NBC show.

The show just completed its fifth edition with Ali Vincent, its first female winner. Vincent is a spokesperson for the show's club as well as the health-club chain 24 Hour Fitness, a big media and branded entertainment sponsor of "Biggest Loser."

While membership in the BiggestLoserClub.com is free, BLC Mobile requires a basic data plan from a member's mobile carrier service; plans typically range from $4.99 to $6.99 per month.

The entire "Loser" franchise--which features The Biggest Loser Meal Plan, books, fitness DVD series, appliances, fitness equipment, protein supplements and other health and lifestyle products--has generated more than $50 million in spending, according to "Loser" partners.
