Facebook Unveils New Polling Ad

facebook Polling Ad Rolling out the latest flavor of its "engagement ads," Facebook is testing a polling ad that allows advertisers to ask users a question and solicit responses within the home page unit. Participants can then view the results and the responses of friends.

CareerBuilder is the first marketer to launch the new polling ad, tying it into a broader Super Bowl campaign. It asks Facebook members which team they expect to win the game as a lead-in to its 60-second Super Bowl TV spots airing during the third quarter on Sunday.

CareerBuilder.com plans to run another poll following the game asking users which part of the company's Super Bowl ad was their favorite. CareerBuilder.com has previously run engagement ads inviting Facebook members to become a "fan" of its recruitment pages on the social network.

In addition to polling and becoming a fan of a brand's Facebook page, other types of engagement ads enable commenting, giving a virtual gift, and RSVPing to an event. A Facebook spokesperson said the polling ads will become generally available in the next few months. The other types of engagement ads are already offered via Facebook's direct sales force.
