Fidelity Sells Community Newspapers to Herald

Fidelity Capital, a unit of mutual funds giant Fidelity Investments, has reached an agreement to sell its Community Newspaper Co. holdings to Herald Media, parent of the daily Boston Herald, New England’s second-largest circulation daily newspaper.

Community Newspaper Co. publishes 88 weekly papers, four dailies, several shoppers and targeted specialty publications, and operates Town Online. The company’s publications have a combined circulation of about 900,000 in eastern Massachusetts and the greater Boston area. The Herald’s daily circulation is 266,000. The deal is expected to close around Nov. 1.
