Flash-Forward
Posted by Kory Kredit on Oct 22, 1:55 PM
My favorite new TV drama this fall centers around a global incident in which every person on earth dropped into a state of unconsciousness for exactly 2 minutes and 17 seconds. During that time, everyone mentally "flashed forward" to the exact same time, six months into the future. The characters see a variety of different experiences ranging from joyful and serene to horrific and terrifying. That got me to thinking. What if we could all see six months into the future? Aside from a huge ratings spike that ABC is hoping for with the season finale of "FlashForward," what else would I expect to see? More specifically, what would the online landscape look like in six months?

Catch Me If You Can
Posted by Kory Kredit on Sep 24, 11:17 AM
Frank Abagnale Jr. was an airline pilot, a lawyer, a doctor, a Lutheran and a self-made millionaire all before the age of 19 -- or so he would have you think. If you've see the movie "Catch Me if You Can," you're familiar with the true story of this infamous con man played by Leonardo DiCaprio. While the extent of his deception seems somewhat inconceivable, it is a story that is still being played out every single day. I'm talking about well-meaning companies that have spent years building their brand and their reputation, choosing to engage in authentic online interaction through a third party. Marketing agencies and social media professionals are assuming the online identities of their clients.

Finishing Well
Posted by Kory Kredit on Sep 3, 12:46 PM
We work in an industry obsessed with start-ups and entrepreneurial initiative that drives individuals and organizations to constantly push for the next Google, Twitter or iPhone killer. We set aside the accomplishments of yesterday to focus on what's next and what could be. In our quest to create new ideas and strive for what's next, one thing gets lost in the evolutionary life cycle for companies, products and even employees: finishing well.

We're All Fruit
Posted by Kory Kredit on Aug 6, 12:50 PM
In the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" the father of the bride, Gus Portokalos, takes a moment during a pre-wedding feast to wax philosophic about the differences between the Portokalos family and the groom's family, the Millers. He explains that Portokalos means orange (like the fruit) in Greek, and the root of the word Miller means apple in Greek. The conclusion he draws from this nugget of Grecian trivia is that "We're different, but in the end, we're all fruit." Classically brilliant.

The Power Of One
Posted by Kory Kredit on Jul 9, 12:09 PM
We live in an economy of reduced marketing budgets and increased pressure to reach our audience using fewer resources. While I would welcome a larger budget and a handful of marketing geniuses at my disposal, I was reminded over the past week of the power that one individual could have, given a compelling story and the passion to communicate it.

Evolutionary Or Revolutionary?
Posted by Kory Kredit on Jun 11, 10:59 AM
Technically speaking, the difference between evolutionary and revolutionary is just one single letter. When speaking of technology, however, the implications of each word are worlds apart. While an evolutionary product is a step forward from where you currently stand, a revolutionary product forges an entirely new path. It is different, bold, and risky -- and also has the potential to be highly rewarding. While the evolution in online advertising continues, we seem to be falling short when it comes to revolutionary ideas.

A Peek Into The Phoenix Suns' Online Expertise
Posted by Kory Kredit on May 14, 2:07 PM
Growing up as a basketball fan in a couple of small towns in Iowa back in the '70s and '80s, my access to news and information about my favorite teams and players was limited to a handful of box scores in the local paper, a periodic feature story in Sports Illustrated and an occasional game on NBC. Fast-forward 30 or so years. Thanks to team Web sites, fan blogs and social media applications we now have access to more content then we could ever consume, and I love it! To get a behind-the-scenes look at what the digital revolution looked like from the inside of a professional sports franchise, I reached out to the Phoenix Sun's Vice President of Interactive Services, Jeramie McPeek.

The Kiss Hello
Posted by Kory Kredit on Apr 16, 12:28 PM
How social do we really want to get? It's a question I've been wrestling with as it relates to our company Web site and one that Jerry Seinfeld wrestled with as well. In a "Seinfeld" episode titled "The Kiss Hello," Kramer decides to post the photos and names of every tenant in the building to foster a friendlier living environment. The social experiment goes too far for Jerry's liking when he is greeted by a kiss on the cheek from every female in the building, and a solid lip lock from Kramer himself. Whether you're Cosmo Kramer in an apartment complex, or a consumer brand launching a Web site like Skittles.com, sometimes you can be too social. I'm all for engaging customers in the social media space, but I'd just as soon kiss Kramer myself as use Twitter or Facebook as a company home page.

What Is 'Better'?
Posted by Kory Kredit on Mar 19, 11:20 AM
As marketers, we are continually working to position our product or service as something "better": better than it was before, better than our competitor, something that will provide a better quality of life. How each of us defines better, however, depends on the context and the audience. There are many different paths, apparently, to Internet advertising nirvana. How do we find the greener grass in this digital pasture? Let's look at a handful of ideas that have generated recent headlines.

Q&A With Guy Kawasaki
Posted by Kory Kredit on Feb 19, 10:47 PM
"I'm kind of a big deal." Those are the immortal words of the legendary Ron Burgundy as he introduces himself to lovely Veronica Corningstone in the movie "Anchorman." As an accomplished newscaster, pseudo-celebrity and owner of many leather-bound books, Mr. Burgundy carries himself with an air of confidence and arrogance that allows him to approach anyone he chooses with an expectation of their immediate acknowledgment of his awesomeness. While I'm no Ron Burgundy (although I do own one leather-bound book), I put on my press hat last week to conduct an interview with Kawasaki, Alltop.com 's co-founder and managing director of Garage Technology Ventures.
