Google, AOL Terms Laid Out

Display advertising is coming soon to Google, Inc.'s spartan Web site as part of its deal with AOL, which is expected to be announced later today. For the first time, ads with graphics and logos will appear on the search engine as per a change in policy agreed upon by both parties. Advertisers will not be limited to AOL, although the company will receive $300 million in advertising on Google's sites on top of the $1 billion in cash Google is investing in the Time Warner company, according to The New York Times. Like other advertisers, AOL will have to bid for placement on Google's AdWords auction program and will be charged out of its $300 million allowance. Additionally, Google will feature AOL content on parts of its site and will also provide search optimization assistance to AOL to help search engines find its pages easier. As ever, no ads will appear on Google's home page.
