  • Clinton in Talks for TV Show

    The Associated press reports that former President Clinton's flirtation with becoming a talk show host has spread to CBS. Neither CBS nor Clinton's representatives would confirm that they are discussing a talk show, although the president's lawyer, Robert Barnett, told AP that Clinton has received an "enormous number of offers" from media outlets. Clinton met in May with executives from NBC. The New York Times reported Wednesday that those talks have collapsed.     Interactive entertainment network eUniverse today announced the launch of Performance Marketing Group (PMG), LLC, an online direct marketing company specializing in designing, planning, implementing and optimizing advertising campaigns for online publishers, and PMG-VELOCITY, a division of PMG that helps companies successfully sell their own products via the Internet. PMG will provides online publishers with the ability to promote eUniverse's products and services to their own audience. Publishers will be able to offer the same highly effective campaigns that eUniverse has used to successfully monetize its audience.   • Cable Streak Continues

    Continuing a streak of weekly 50+ primetime shares that has been unbroken since the end of May, ad-supported cable recorded a 53.4 primetime share of viewing in Week #47 of the 2001/2002 TV season. According to a Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau analysis of Nielsen data for August 12–18, cable’s primetime share was up 3.4 points (+6.8%) compared to the same weekly reporting period a year ago. In other primetime viewership measures for the week, ad-supported cable had an average U.S. household delivery of 31 million homes (+9.7% versus last year); and a rating of 29.4 (+6.1%). The company says the planning tool provides information on media spending, share of inches, photograph views, comparison of creative strategies and other market facts.   • WWE Slammed

    World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. is seeing weaker earnings, as revenues got smacked down by weaker ratings and lower pay-per-view purchases. The company posted a profit for the first quarter ended July 26 of $2.5 million, or 4 cents a share. That's including $2.2 million from settlement of a lawsuit with Parents Television Council, which had blamed the WWE for the deaths of children. A year earlier, the company posted a profit of $12.0 million, or 16 cents a share, helped by one-time gains from licensee sales. Revenues fell to $88.1 million from $90.7 million.
