Google is teaming with the world's largest buyer of media, Martin Sorrell's WPP Group, to conduct new primary research to understand how advertising works on both digital and traditional media outlets. Celebrity endorsements are as old as advertising itself, and a new study conducted by Insight Express finds that the practice has remained relevant in an increasingly digital world. The site should launch in late 2009 or early 2010, according to CEO Ben Behrouzi. Spending by small- and medium-sized businesses on "non-advertising" marketing will more than triple over the next five years to $1.63 billion as local companies pour money into building out their Web sites and other promotional efforts online.
