SHAYNE MIHALKA, former VP of Network Development and Business Operations for ValueClick, Inc., has accepted an executive position with the ad network Fastclick. Mihalka will focus on new business development opportunities surrounding Fastclick's upcoming ad server product, top tier publisher relationships, and large direct marketing advertisers.
BBDO's Chicago has laid off between about 5% of its 210 person staff, or about 12 people, an agency representative said. Reduced client spending was blamed for the layoffs, which hit all departments, the representative said. BBDO Chicago, whose major client is the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co., has had no other layoffs since the ad recession began last year.
Michael Meyers & Associates announced that FRANCHESCA BORROEL has joined the agency, assuming the position of Media Director. Borroel will be responsible for managing the agency’s media planning and buying as well as management of the public relations function. Prior to joining MM&A advertising she held media planning positions with a number of major agencies in New York and in Chicago including Campbell Mithun, D’Arcy Masius, Benton & Bowles, and Foote, Cone & Belding. Also at MM&A, HEATHER PHILLIP has been promoted to the post of Account Executive. In her new position, Philipp will be responsible for managing the development and implementation of integrated marketing communications programs for a number of the agency’s clients. Philipp has been a part of the agency’s marketing department since she joined MM&A as Project Coordinator in June 2000.
DraftWorldwide Chicago has hired JAMES LUCAS as senior vice president, director of research, database and analytics. Lucas's responsibility will be to lead the agency's research and Data Technology Services (DTS) groups. Lucas brings more than 20 years of analytical and research experience. He joins from Krumm & Associates, LLC (Chicago), where he was director, analytics and modeling. While there, he handled strategic direct and database marketing business issues for clients such as Discover Card, DIRECTV, Wachovia Bank, and Sears. Prior to that, he was director integrated planning and account services at The Sales Machine/Tatham Euro RSCG.
The Bombay Company, Inc. announced the appointment of STEPHEN FARLEY as Senior Vice President, Marketing. Farley's role will be to direct the multi-channel strategies and plans for retail, direct mail and web marketing with emphasis on brand development and consumer-centric marketing. He comes to Bombay from J.C. Penney Company where he was Chief Marketing Officer.
LORI BURGESS, most recently publisher of Conde Nast Publications' defunct Mademoiselle, has been named publisher of Elle, a 981,000-circ fashion monthly published by Hachette Filipacchi Media. Burgess will report to Carol Smith, senior VP, Publishing director of the Elle Group. Smith moved over from Elle.com in March after longtime Elle exec Carl Portale decided on early retirement.
CHUCK BRADLEY is the new National Advertising Sales Manager for Weight Watchers magazine in New York City. He comes to Weight Watchers from the Scholastic Teen Magazine Network where he served as an Account Manager.
The T&O Group, a leading Orange County advertising, interactive and public relations agency, and member of the Worldwide Partners network, has announced the promotion of DAVE ROBINSON from general manager to president. The new position enables STEVE O'LEARY to become chairman of the agency and devote more time as a strategic adviser to clients. O'Leary will work with the account teams, as well as implement initiatives to identify and deliver new value-add client services.
JOHN M. O'HAUGHERTY, the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of LodgeNet Entertainment Corp., a specialized communications company, plans to retire on July 1. In a press release, the company said O'Haugherty agreed to be available for general consultation and special projects for a two-year period.
