Interactive Advertising Bureau - Director, Data & Ad Effectiveness

General Information:

The IAB Technology Laboratory (IAB Tech Lab) is an independent, global, nonprofit research and development consortium that defines and helps companies implement technical standards for digital advertising. Comprised of publishers, ad technology firms, marketers, agencies, and other interactive marketing companies, the IAB Tech Lab’s standards, software, and services enable brand and media growth globally via a transparent, safe, and effective supply chain; simpler and more consistent measurement; and better advertising experiences for consumers – all with a focus on mobile and “TV” channel enablement. Established in 2014, the IAB Tech Lab is headquartered in New York City, with an office in San Francisco.

Position Description:

The Director of Compliance Programs reports to the Senior Vice President of Membership & Operations, IAB Tech Lab and will be tasked with building and operating programs to verify technical compliance to a variety of IAB Tech Lab specifications, protocols, and tools. This position will manage day-to-day operations of the Compliance Programs, and will work with product owners, software engineers, working group members and qualified auditors to draft new certifications to include in Compliance Programs.  Management of each Compliance Program includes: working with companies around the globe who wish to undergo testing for compliance and achieve certification; managing external auditor resources and providing oversight for compliance engagements; reviewing audits and attestation submissions; arranging for training sessions; and managing invoicing and payments.  In addition, the person in this role will manage work groups that are tasked with reviewing certifications and will based in either the New York office or San Francisco office.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Initial design/development of compliance programs.
    • Create and help lead efforts to establish auditable compliance criteria for existing specifications and guidelines, working with Tech Lab and IAB staff, members, and auditing vendors.
    • Determine market feasibility for new programs.
    • Responsible for overseeing drafting of new auditable standards and revising existing ones.
    • Work with external audit vendors to establish program components, including method, process, milestones, and certification deliverables.
  • Manage day-to-day program operations to ensure high level of compliance, renewal, payment and training of Tech Lab compliant companies including:
    • Work directly with Tech Lab staff to manage the pipeline of compliance engagements from initial interest to signed agreement, and ensure they understand the process and steps for certification.
    • Kick off each engagement and overseeing the process to successful achievement of certification.
    • Assist with gathering of compliance data for testing, preparation of reports, and review/communication of findings (including recommendations for remediation).
    • Onboard all new Tech Lab compliant companies and communicate their achievements through press releases and listing within the certification portal.
    • Manage the certification renewal process for enrolled companies to ensure high level of on-time renewals including managing and reviewing submissions.
    • Ensure adequate training opportunities are scheduled for compliance officers to ensure all enrolled members have the opportunity to attend within 1 quarter of joining program.
    • Oversee program financial operations including invoice issuance and collection of Certification fee.
    • General management of the Compliance Programs business, including pricing, costs, budget vs. actual, and other program health metrics.

Strong skills/experience in:

  • Technical standards within digital interactive advertising, including impression, click and viewability measurement for areas including video, display, podcasts, mobile, etc.
  • Mobile app, desktop and mobile web environments and testing across display, video, native and audio formats
  • Ad operations and delivery across direct and programmatic channels.
  • Technical tools for testing apps, SDKs, ad tags, APIs and Web pages
  • Technical project management
  • Negotiation
  • Compliance programs and certification
  • Standards creation, and consensus-building within a working group environment

Additional requirements:

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience
  • Exceptional communication skills – in person, email, telephone, video conference, and messaging
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally to meet with Tech Lab members and staff
  • Proven ability to align day-to-day activities and big picture efforts, while influencing both
  • Experience working cross-team and with volunteers
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Graduate degree preferred.
