  • March 12, 2009
Toyota says it has passed the one million mark for sales of Lexus and Toyota hybrid vehicles in the U.S.

Toyota and Lexus have six hybrid vehicles including the Toyota Prius and 75% of all hybrid vehicles sales in the U.S. for a decade, per the company--which reports cumulative worldwide sales of Toyota and Lexus hybrids of over 1.7 million vehicles through January of this year.

The company plans to have 10 new hybrid models between now and 2012 in various global markets.

The company says that from 2000 through February 2009 it has sold over 700,000 Prius cars in the U.S., constituting over half of the 1.2 million Prius cars sold worldwide during that period.

This summer, the company launches the second-generation Lexus RX 450h SUV. Toyota says the 2010 Prius, coming this spring, will attain 50 mpg. The first dedicated Lexus hybrid, the HS 250h, comes this summer.--Karl Greenberg
