The Washington Times has partnered with Talk Radio Network to launch a nationally syndicated, three-hour, morning-drive radio show aimed at showcasing the paper's reporting and
investigative journalism. The radio program is slated to debut in the spring. The move into radio is part of the Times' strategy to transform itself into a multimedia, multiplatform news
company.
Mark Masters, CEO of Talk Radio, says the arrangement of print journalists tapping into "radio's ability to give the time and context needed to flesh out breaking stories,
will make for a powerful combination." Instead of commenting on yesterday's news, the new combined news show will be able to drive the news cycle, "like "60 Minutes" once did for TV, this show can
do for radio," Masters says.
It is not the first time such a joint effort has been tried in the nation's capital. The Washington Post partnered with Bonneville International to
create an entire radio station (WTWP) branded as Washington Post radio in early 2006. Less than two years later the two companies were forced to cut short their partnership.
