CEA Chiefs Says U.S. Ready For TV Switch

  • March 26, 2009
American consumers are ready for the conversion to digital broadcast television this June, according to Consumer Electronics Association president and CEO Gary Shapiro.

Testifying before the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Shapiro said consumer education efforts undertaken by the CEA and others are sufficient for the transition, which will take place on June 12. Shapiro also said that converter box inventory for those wishing to convert analog televisions to receive digital broadcasts are sufficient to cover demand for the next three months.

The switchover was originally scheduled for Feb. 17, but was delayed because of concerns that consumers were ill-prepared for it. --Aaron Baar
