When MLB.com introduced an iPhone application last year, it seemed odd that one of the few online properties to find success with a paid model would opt to offer a free app. Well, that's been corrected with the newly released version, dubbed At Bat 2009.
Unlike the free At-Bat Lite, which mainly offers baseball scores and standings, the upgrade provides audio streaming of every MLB game from Opening Day to the last game of the World Series, with a choice of the home or visiting teams' announcers.
It also packages video highlights, real-time box scores, and detailed pitch data, among other features. Oh, and it costs $10. Now that's more characteristic of MLB.com. But at least baseball fans can still get the free app.--Mark Walsh
