Internet Advertising Spending Increases

Online advertising represented 2.65% of all advertising expenditures in the first half of 2000 according to Competitive Media Reporting research. Figures for traditional media ad expenditures were also released. Spending on television, newspapers, magazines, radio and outdoor increased 14.9% from the previous year to $47.7 billion. But Internet advertising exploded, increasing 65% from $789.6 million to $1.3 billion. Online advertising percentage of all advertising also grew substantially from the 1.87% of all advertising spent this time last year. The survey compared advertising numbers during January to June 1999 to the activity during the same six months of 2000.
