earthdaynetwork/iphoneIn advance of Earth Day on Wednesday, the Green Apple Festival -- produced in partnership with Earth Day Network -- hits 10 cities this weekend, backed by an array of eco-minded corporate sponsors, including:

• Timberland's social media venture, Earthkeeper Network
• Disneynature's new film documentary, "Earth," which hits theaters on Earth Day
• Motorola's Moto W233 phone, which is made from recycled water bottles
• Clear2GO's reusable water bottles

The weekend culminates with a free concert Sunday afternoon on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., headlined by The Flaming Lips and hosted by Chevy Chase. It will be streamed live online by MySpace.

The D.C. event, from noon to 6 p.m., will also include an Ecoroad Show featuring exhibits from marketers, non-profits, government agencies and foreign embassies. One exhibitor will be Pentel of America showing its Recycology line of writing products -- including the introduction of its latest item, touted as the industry's first eco-friendly and refillable whiteboard marker. Other Ecoroad participants include the sponsors previously listed, plus Starbucks and the University of Phoenix.

In addition to Washington, cities that will be holding Green Apple concerts this weekend -- complete with their own lists of local sponsors -- are New York, Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Austin, Texas, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. Volunteers for all 10 cities were found through a partnership with Discovery Communications' Planet Green, whose ventures include the Planet Green cable network and TreeHugger.com, and which will also be exhibiting in the Ecoroad Show.

Earth Day Network has also teamed up with the Organic Trade Association and MusicMatters for the fifth year of Go Organic! for Earth Day, which has just launched a new iPhone application. Consumers with the app can find local Earth Day events as well as stores in 10 major markets that are offering $12 coupon books for CLIF Bar, Van's, R.W. Knudsen Family and other brands.

Participating retailers in Go Organic! include:

• Kroger in Dallas-Ft. Worth, Atlanta, Cincinnati and Detroit
• Ralph's in Los Angeles
• ShopRite in New York metro
