Editor Kaplan Exits 'New York Observer'

New York Observer editor Peter Kaplan is leaving the weekly June 1, reports the New York Post amid rumors that the newspaper's owner, Jared Kushner, is trying to sell it. Kaplan, who had been at the paper for alost 15 years, denies there is any ill will between himself and Kushner. Estimates now peg annual losses at $4 million. In November, all staffers making $40,000+ a year took a 5% pay cut. Kaplan hired Candace Bushnell to write the "Sex and the City" column that was the springboard for the hit HBO series.
