California Rejects Digital Billboard Ban

California lawmakers, in a 10-3 vote by the governmental organization committee, rejected a de facto ban on digital billboards in the state Thursday. The panel did not accept claims that digital billboards were unsafe -- a victory for the Outdoor Advertising Association of America, the Motion Picture Association and the California Travel Industry, which opposed the legislation. Digital billboards are allowed under federal guidelines; there are more than 1,400 of them in the United States.
