Carr Drives Discovery's Strategic Marketing

Discovery Communications' TLC has named cable marketing veteran Tom Carr as its senior vice president of strategic marketing.

Carr had been senior vice president of marketing for Discovery Communications' new Planet Green network, which was launched last June. Previously, he was chief marketing officer of Spanx Inc., a women's intimate apparel company -- handling all branding, retail and direct-to-consumer promotions, and corporate communications.

Before Spanx, Carr was the senior vice president of marketing for TNT, working on a number of the network's dramatic entertainment programs, including the top-rated cable series "The Closer."

The "Closer" campaign garnered a number of marketing awards. He also worked on the network's overall brand marketing campaign, "We Know Drama."
