Study Says Anti-Smoking Ads Do Work

  • March 22, 2001
A team of researchers from Florida State University concluded that Florida's "truth" advertising campaign is indeed having an impact on reducing teen smoking. The "truth" campaign is reaching Florida's teens, as 94% of the surveyed teens confirmed awareness of the campaign overall. The latest Florida Anti-tobacco Media Evaluation (FAME) survey, just released by the Florida Department of Health, compared advertising elements of the Florida "truth" campaign, the American Legacy Foundation national anti-smoking campaign, and tobacco industry sponsored campaigns. Industry-produced anti-tobacco and industry promotion advertisements appear to be least successful in reaching Florida adolescents, according to the study.
