  • June 29, 2009

Little, Brown Book Group announced Monday that Stephenie Meyer's wildly popular Twilight vampire saga will be released as an iPhone App, with ereader versions of the books for the smartphone. The app is being created in partnership with ScrollMotion, creators of the Iceberg Reader, and will be available beginning June 29.

"We've seen tremendous demand for Stephenie Meyer's books on the iPhone in the US and we're thrilled to be working with Hachette UK to distribute her best-selling titles internationally," said Calvin Baker, ScrollMotion Chief Content Officer. ScrollMotion has also worked with companies such as CondéNast, Tribune Company, and Lifetime Television.

ScrollMotion and Little, Brown are in the initial stages of a trial program to bring books to the iPhone that also includes titles from bestselling authors Kelley Armstrong, Iain M. Banks, Patricia Cornwell, Dorothy Koomson and Alexander McCall Smith.

David Shelley, digital publisher at Little, Brown Book Group, said, "To be able to add to the range of ways consumers can read their favourite authors feels like a particularly exciting development."

Sales of Stephenie Meyer's novel made up around 16% of all book sales in the first quarter of 2009, according to Bookscan; that's one in every seven books sold. --John Capone
