Amazon.com has launched a new service to sell cell phones and service plans online. The new service, AmazonWireless, will offer phones and plans from AT&T and Verizon Wireless initially, and will likely add other phones and services during its beta test run.

New customers are guided through the entire process, including selecting a phone and plan to suit their needs and budget, and will include popular Amazon features like bestsellers and customer reviews.

The new service, which draws upon Amazon's eight years of selling cell phones over the Internet, will also allow customers who already have a plan to upgrade their phones. --Aaron Baar
