Roll Call Acquires 'Congressional Quarterly'

  • July 21, 2009
Roll Call Group has acquired Congressional Quarterly from the Times Publishing Company. Roll Call, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Economist Group, will purchase CQ to form a new company: CQ-Roll Call Group. Since 1945, CQ has been the "publication of record," providing factual, unbiased coverage of congressional activity. In recent years, CQ has been at the forefront of developing Internet services that cover Congress. Roll Call, founded in 1955, examines the people, politics and personalities that drive the legislative process. Each distinct editorial voice will be preserved. No staff cuts are expected with the exception of Robert W. Merry, president and editor in chief of CQ for the past 12 years, who will not be retained by the merged entity.
