Apple: Sales Drive Good Quarter

Apple reported $8.3 billion in revenue and a net profit of $1.2 billion ($1.35 per diluted share) for the third quarter of its 2009 fiscal year, which ended on June 27. For the same quarter in the previous year, the company had revenue of $7.4 billion and a net profit of $1.1 billion ($1.19 per diluted share).

During the quarter, the company sold 2.6 million Macintosh computers (up 4% from a year ago), 10.2 million iPods (down 7% from a year ago) and 5.2 million iPhones (up 626% from the previous year). The company said it expected fourth-quarter revenue to be between $8.7 billion and $8.9 billion.--Aaron Baar
