ProQuest Distributing NewspaperDirect Products

  • July 12, 2004
ProQuest Information and Learning has begun distributing its NewspaperDirect newspaper products in libraries and educational facilities, promising greater accessibility as well as cost savings to participating venues.

Via a global print-on-demand network, NewspaperDirect assembles efeeds from its partner publishers overnight and enables a library to automatically download and print selected editions at copy stations within the library. With this service, libraries can select the number of copies and titles they desire to print and make available in their reading rooms.

Currently, NewspaperDirect distributes more than 240 same-day newspaper titles in more than 70 countries and in more than 30 different languages worldwide. Until now, it has concentrated on reaching travelers at hotels, retail locations and aboard cruise ships via two delivery formats: Print-on-Demand and the newly released PressDisplay electronic daily newspapers. In both cases, all advertising is reprinted.

Proquest predicts that libraries will save 30-50 percent of costs typically associated with publishers' annual print subscription fees.
