United Airlines Buys MyPoints.com

United NewVentures, a UAL Corp. subsidiary that manages United Airlines' Internet initiatives and investments, will acquire online direct marketer MyPoints.com Inc., in a deal worth about $112.5 million, the two companies said on Monday. The companies said UAL will make a cash tender offer of $2.60 per share for each of the outstanding common shares of San Francisco-based MyPoints. United NewVentures said the acquisition will allow it to better communicate special offers, upgrades and fares to its customers through the airline's united.com and Mileage Plus program and to reach new customers.
