Rodriguez Leaves Microsoft

Enrique Rodriguez

As part of a broader restructuring effort, Microsoft on Friday said it was losing Enrique Rodriguez, corporate vice president for its TV, Video and Music Business, including Microsoft Mediaroom, PlayReady, Windows Media Center and Zune product groups.

"Rodriguez has decided to move on from his leadership position running the TV, Video and Music business, and he is evaluating his next opportunity," said a company representative.

Calling it a "natural evolution of the Interactive Entertainment Business," Microsoft said Friday that its consumer products and experiences focused on games, movies, television, and music will now all be part of IEB, and led by Senior Vice President, Don Mattrick.

In addition, Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division, announced the formation of a new centralized E&D services infrastructure team, which will act as a combined resource across the division.

Not specified is how the move will impact Microsoft's mobile device efforts, which some analysts have recently criticized for lacking direction. For the time being, Bach is expected to stand in for Rodriguez, providing Microsoft's TV platform to phone and cable companies.

Previously, Rodriguez served as corporate vice president for the Microsoft Connected TV Business, and before that, he was vice president of Xbox Partnerships, where he contributed to the launch of Xbox and Xbox 360 products and services.

Before joining Microsoft in 2003, Rodriguez spent over 20 years at Thomson/RCA, where he served in a variety of engineering and executive roles, most recently as executive vice president for broadband access products.
