News Corp. Plans Reality TV Network, First In A Series Of DirecTV Launches

News Corp. Thursday announced plans to launch a new cable and satellite TV distributed channel dedicated to reality TV programming. The new, as yet unnamed channel, which will launch during the first quarter of 2005, is the first of what is expected to be several new channels launched by News Corp., now controls a built-in base of distribution via DirecTV. The channel, which likely will draw on successful Fox Broadcasting Co. reality shows like "American Idol," will compete with Reality Central, a new channel founded by E! Entertainment founder Larry Namer and run by former USA Networks chief Kay Koplovitz.
