Toyota Pulls ABC TV Ads

  • February 9, 2010
Toyota dealers in five Southeast states have yanked their commercials off ABC TV local affiliates, complaining about the coverage of Toyota safety problems by ABC News and its chief investigative correspondent Brian Ross, reports ABC. Spots were moved to non-ABC stations in the same markets "as punishment for the reporting," according to an ABC station manager. Toyota is now expected to add the 2010 Prius to its list of recalled vehicles.--Fern Siegel

Instead of pulling their ads, they should be investing more dollars and promoting the fact that they are going to make this right. In addition to fixing the problem, they should be promoting extra service to their loyal customers -- free car washes, oil changes, loaners, etc. Instead of trying to fix their PR problem, they are only adding to it. They must be taking lessons from Akio.
