'Survivor' Knocks 'Grey's' From Top Spot

CBS'

A rare head-to-head meeting of CBS' "Survivor" and ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" resulted in one show being kicked -- at least temporarily -- off its 9 p.m. high rating island.

A special two-hour "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains" from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. not only knocked ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" from its top perch among 18-49 viewers -- it pushed the medical show to its lowest 18-49 ratings ever for an original episode: a 4.3/11.

The special CBS "Survivor" earned a 4.5/12 for the 9 p.m. hour, and a slightly better 4.6/13 for its 8 p.m. hour. With over 14 million viewers, it also tallied the best total viewer audience since December 2007 with "Survivor: China."

But all this pushed down NBC's "The Office," which was recently pegging a second-best result in the 9 p.m. time period, with a 3.7/10, from its mostly four-plus rating performances.

CBS' "Survivor" also helped lift its 10 p.m. show "The Mentalist" past ABC's "Private Practice" (a 3.6/10 versus a 3.2/9).

Considering all this, NBC did well with its early evening comedies --"Community" and "Parks & Recreation" -- as both earned about the same numbers a week ago, at a 2.3/7 and a 2.3/6, respectively. "30 Rock," at 9:30 p.m., also clicked with a solid 2.9/7. Fox took a back seat this night -- a rerun of "Bones" got to a 2.1/6, and another new episode for its new series, "Past Life," was at a lifeless 1.4/4.

CW took a 1.5/4 for "Vampire Diaries" at 8 p.m., down some from the week before. Its key women 18-34 numbers remained steady.

CBS was tops in this February sweeps Thursday -- with a 4.2/12 -- among 18-49 viewers. ABC was next with a 3.0/8, followed by NBC at a 2.4/6, Fox with a 1.8/5, Univision at a 1.7/5, and CW with a 1.3/3.
