Sprint is the latest major carrier to announce plans to offer a version of Google's Nexus One smartphone, although it didn't provide pricing details or an exact launch date. Sprint already offers a
pair of Android-based devices in the Samsung Moment and HTC Hero, but the Nexus One will be a step up. T-Mobile USA and AT&T already offer the Google phone, and Verizon Wireless is soon expected to as
well. T-Mobile sells a subsidized version of the $529 Google phone for $179, though AT&T offers it only at full price.
The wider distribution should help the Web giant boost distribution of
the Nexus One, which mobile analytics firm Flurry reported this week has only sold 174,000 units since launching in January. Google took a big risk by selling the phone directly online and unlocked
rather than through carrier retail outlets and with contracts, as most U.S. mobile subscribers are accustomed to. --Mark Walsh
