General Mills Launches Global Volunteer Projects

  • April 19, 2010
To mark Earth Day and National Volunteer Week, General Mills has organized "Think Global, Volunteer Local," a week of coordinated volunteer projects involving employees throughout the world.

During April 19-23, up to 2,000 employees are participating in environmentally focused volunteer efforts ranging from cleaning local beaches and city streets to planting trees in parks and repairing inner-city homes.

A General Mills survey found that 82% of U.S. employees already volunteer through company programs or independently, with nearly 60% spending up to five hours per month serving their communities.

In fiscal 2009, General Mills awarded $91 million to communities across the country, representing more than 5% of company pretax profits for the year and an increase of 4.3% over fiscal 2008.--Karlene Lukovitz
